Focus on your good habits and grades.
Develop a study routine throughout the week. Study when you are most alert and in an area with minimal distractions. Alkek Library and RRHEC Library are great places to study. Boko's Hints: Trust me...it is much easier to maintain a GPA than to improve it after it's trashed! Yes, you are definitely going to hit the books more than you did in high school. (Many times assignments will be self-directed learning.) Also, the professors won't provide reminders.
Learn about and use academic support services.
Academic support services are used by thousands of students each semester. College is difficult and additional assistance often is required. Boko's Hints: YIKES! Don't wait until mid-terms and finals to focus on grades or ask for help. By that time you may be in too deep to dig out!
Learn about and practice with technology resources.
What happens when your personal computer has a virus or the printer is jammed? Boko's Hints: Call the Texas State Help Desk at 245-HELP between 8 am - 6 pm or visit one of the many campus computer labs to assist with your academic success. Check them out and always have a back up plan.
Go to class.
Boko's Hints: Not attending class could be the first mistake students make. Get to class and be prepared. Sit in the front and maybe even take the risk of answering a question or two! It will make a difference.
Maintain healthy sleep patterns throughout the semester (including during tests and finals).
