SUBJ:     Minutes of the Student Affairs Council Meeting (SAC) on February 8, 2006

Agenda Items

 

1.      PC Report-

 

-Dr. Smith discussed proposed changes to the Equity and Access Committee.  These have been approved by the President’s Cabinet

 

-Dr. Smith shared with the council some of the discussions about Tuition Revenue Bonds. The approval process will change, but the details of the proposed changes are unknown. The top two priorities for Texas State University are the Undergraduate Services Building and the Performing Arts Center.

 

-A meeting with the Legislative Budget Board will be held at the Round Rock Higher Education Center tomorrow morning.  Several members of the President’s Cabinet will be traveling to meet with the Board

.

-Mr. Frank Bartley, a junior at Texas State, has been selected to serve as the student regent for Texas State University.

 

-Dr. Trauth provided the cabinet with updates on the TSUS President’s Meeting.  Course fees and flat tuition rates were among the topics of discussion.

 

-PCR Issues - Beginning with the March payroll, the PCR deadlines will be strictly enforced.  Training for completion of PCR’s will begin in March.

 

-The President’s Cabinet has approved an increase in the cost of football tickets for next year.

 

      2.  Retention Updates-

 

-Ms. Beck provided an update on several retention programs that are underway. Welcome Bobcat messages have been sent to over 1,300 new transfer students.  Less than 60 of these have been returned because the addresses have not been activated.   SAC members should have received the Paws Alert message that was sent out yesterday.  Ms. Beck has already have received three responses.  The Texas State Student Success Plan is in the final stages of development.  The newly created Retention Analysis Council will begin meeting soon, and finally, the Dean’s List Reception for the fall semester honorees will be at 2-4 p.m. on February 22nd.

 

      3.  Updates and Construction-

 

-Dr. Joanne Smith reviewed the status of the construction projects on campus.

 

      4.   Compensatory Time Policy-

 

-Directors were asked to comment on the proposed change to the policy on compensatory time accrual.  A revision to the policy was approved.

 

      5.   Extended SAC Agenda-

 

-Several topics will be included on the agenda, including the Texas State Student Success Plan, introduction of the new Associate Director in Financial Aid doing a presentation about the ability to check on line about the status of your financial aid, Dr. Chris Frost discussing proposals for next year’s Common Experience, a Facebook presentation by Jim Settle, and conscribed e-mail list changes.

 

ROUND TABLE

 

1.      Summer Job Fair- Over 65 employers will be in attendance at the Summer Job fair tomorrow beginning at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the Ballroom.

 

2.      ESDT- On February 24th, Dr. Joanne Smith will be presenting on the topic of “Culture of Care” at 9:00 am.
