Description of the Student Affairs Startegic Planning System
The Strategic Plan System (SPS) allows the Student Affairs Division to monitor and use our strategic plans to guide our decisions. SPS is a Microsoft SQL application accessible via the web to department directors and their designated staff as well as staff in the Vice President for Student Affairs Office. The SPS allows designated users to add and/or update departmental vision and mission statements as well as strategic plan details and assessment information.
The main SPS menu lists six choices for the user: 1) Vision, 2) Mission, 3) Department Goals, 4) Objectives, 5) Strategies, and 6) Reports. Technical staff in the Vice President’s Office also has access to a seventh category (Administrator), where they manage user access to the system.

Users navigate through the SPS using a menu system with drop-down lists, much like that of other software packages. Users can navigate to any section of the SPS using the menu system. They may also access a help file, print screen shots or generate reports from the menu choices.
The following information provides details about elements contained in the Student Affairs departmental strategic plans.
Vision and Mission Statements
Users may enter and/or edit their departmental vision and mission statements in the system. This information may also be extracted via a standard report in the Reports section of the system.
Department Goals
Goals are the foundations of our strategic plans. Users must enter their departmental goals into the SPS before any detailed information can be entered.
Objectives
Users then enter objectives and indicate how each objective links to the University Planning Categories, Student Affairs Goals, and departmental goals using radio buttons and drop-down list boxes.
Strategies
Strategies are linked to departmental objectives. Users enter departmental strategies along with associated details (timeline, new resources needed, cost and funding source(s), person(s) responsible, and status, plus any comments if needed to fully explain the strategy).
Reports
Users may generate reports from the SPS. Several standard report options are available, and reports may be formatted for on-screen viewing or for printing.
