MENTORING PROGRAM HISTORY
The Mentoring Program was initiated in 1992 by the Student Affairs Division as a part of the University's retention plan. The program's mission is to increase the retention of students by providing incoming freshmen and new transfer students opportunities to learn from university mentors who serve as coaches, role models, advisors, guides and referral agents.
The Mentoring Program is currently in its 15th year of operation and has demonstrated success since its inception. The number of student, faculty and staff participants has increased each year since the beginning of the program. Students who participate in the program have a lower attrition rate and higher overall grade point averages than their non-mentored counterparts.
