Primary support to the Texas State Parents Association is through membership contributions. These funds are used to support programs that reach a large portion of the student body and have assisted student learning and retention, career development, and many critical areas of the educational process. The Association’s support dollars have been used for:
|
| The Student Learning Assistance Center (SLAC) provides academic support including walk-in tutoring with help in virtually all core curriculum. SLAC Lab also offers study materials, handouts, and computer-assisted instruction in a variety of topics and levels. SLAC’s Supplemental Instruction (SI) program, a nontraditional approach to collaborative learning, provides organized group study for courses ranging from the liberal arts to sciences and math. Other SLAC programs include presentations on topics such as test taking, learning styles, and time management, and the College Note Taking session of PAWS Preview. Students may visit SLAC for assistance in preparing for the THEA, GRE, LSAT, GMAT, and GSP exams. Online resources include SLAC Lab’s tutoring schedule, the times and location of SI sessions, content area handouts, test preparation materials, and an Online Writing Lab (OWL) and a Math Online Lab (MOL), providing tutoring via email. SLAC services are paid for through student fees, departmental funding, and support from the Parent’s Association, and are available to all Texas State students at no additional cost.
