Marian Loep and Sue Cole enjoy coordinating the Texas State Parents Association
I get excited when I talk about the Texas State Parents Association and all of the good things this organization does to help our students succeed! I have been coordinator for the Association since 1989 and have enjoyed watching it grow into the strong organization that it is today.
I've been at Texas State since 1981 and have worked in several university offices including Institutional Advancement, the President’s Office, Student and Institutional Relations (Student Affairs) and now University Advancement. I retired from my full-time position in August 2004 and returned in October as half-time coordinator for the Parents Association. I am now able to dedicate all my time to this great organization.
I think I have one of the best jobs on the Texas State campus! Working with students and parents to improve the quality of the educational process has been most rewarding. Its is a fascinating and touching experience to talk to first-year parents who are having difficulty letting go, and then watch them and their students progress through the college years toward graduation. The friendships and bonds that form throughout these years are in themselves rewarding.
Outside of the office I’m a busy grandmother, past president of the Greater San Marcos Chapter of the Alumni Association, a member of the Bobcat Athletic Foundation and the Friends of Fine Arts & Communication. Next time you are on campus, stop by the Alumni House (second floor) and say, hi! I look forward to meeting you and working with you and your student.
Texas State is truly in my blood! I was born and raised in San Marcos; my mom, dad, four brothers, sister, and I all graduated from Texas State; and my dad taught chemistry here for 31 years. That’s why, after spending 25 years as the wife of an Air Force pilot and moving 14 times, I was so excited to be able to come back to this wonderful city and work at my alma mater.
I started working at Texas State in August 1995 in the Cashier’s Office and moved to University Advancement and the Parents Association in January 1999. It was quite a change transferring from an office where people get upset with you for TAKING their money to an office that receives donations to the university!! Those donors include our wonderful Parents Association members whose gifts help support many worthwhile student programs across campus. Working with the Association is so gratifying professionally because I know we contribute to the retention and success of our students, but the friendships we form also add a personal reward.
Outside of the office, I stay busy with church activities, Bobcat Athletic Foundation, Texas State Friends of Fine Arts & Communication, the Greater San Marcos Chapter of the Alumni Association and attending as many Bobcat sporting and fine arts events as possible which I love.
Texas State is a great place to work, play AND go to school! We would love to have you join in the fun!!
