01. POLICY STATEMENT
01.01 The Student Affairs (SA) Division is committed to the efficient and effective fulfillment of the institution's mission. To this end the management of the SA Division through its various departments, staff offices, and recognized student groups and organizations, will be carried out in accordance with the specific direction of the President of the university and as promulgated by and through authorized administrative channels and the university's policy and procedure statements (UPPS). The SA/PPS is intended to compliment the UPPS. The following procedure contributes to the implementation of this policy.
01.02 This policy and procedure statement establishes guidelines and procedures for the orientation of new Student Affairs (SA) employees.
02. PROCEDURES FOR OPERATING DETAILS
02.01 Each Student Affairs Council (SAC) member will be responsible to insure that all new employees within their area accomplish the following:
a. Attend the University's orientation sessions (Part I & Part II) provided by the Texas State Quality/Staff Development office, beginning on the first date of hire.
b. Attend the Student Affairs Orientation session, which is provided once each long semester and once during the summer. This includes a tour of the Student Affairs sites at Texas State, and a two-hour program provided by executive staff.
c. Review critical policies and procedures within Student Affairs and some of the following UPPS's:

04.04.01 Personnel Policies & Procedures
04.04.06 Dual Employment
04.04.20 Non-Faculty Evaluation and Merit Policy
04.04.30 University Leave Policy
04.04.41 Staff Employee Grievances
In addition, new employees should be made aware of the Employee Handbook and the Texas State Travel Manual. Staff should review the SA on-line manual at: http://www.vpsa.txstate.edu/samanual/Index.htm
d. Complete necessary employment forms in the Personnel office.
e. Obtain parking permit, if applicable, and ID card.
f. Review of the job procedures for the position.
g. Complete orientation with the immediate supervisor to discuss working hours, benefits, absences, office protocol, office procedures and expectations, work safety issues, information about work-place violence, and information about evaluations and CEU’s (see Attachment II – CEU Form).
h. Complete and document attendance of a sexual harassment training module within 90 days of employment.
i. Complete Equal Employment Opportunity training within 90 days of employment.
02.03 Each new employee's orientation program should be completed within four month's of employment within Student Affairs. Attachment I provides a checklist that may be used in the completion of this process.
